Tennis Court Hire (members only)

Complementary tennis court hire is strictly for members only and members should register in at reception before using the courts. Courts must be booked in advance by emailing reception@ucsactive.org.uk or calling 0207 433 2127.
Members are welcome to bring a guest subject to a guest fee of £15 for adults, £10 for teens( 12yrs-15yrs) and £7.50 for children (5yrs- 11yrs). Any guests of members are also required to register at the reception before they access the tennis courts.

We are launching the UCS summer Tennis league on Monday 11th August to end of October! We will be running three separate BOX leagues:
- Men’s singles league
- Women’s singles league
- Mixed doubles league
We will start the men’s and women’s league on Thursday 14th August however, for any additional players who would to join will still be able to do so after this date by emailing Dean Green. To join the league, email dean.green@ucsactive.org.uk with your LTA number and complete this terms and conditions form.
You will also need to let Dean know which league you would like to join. The league is aimed at intermediate and advanced players so if you want some guidance on your level please check out the ‘what level am I’ section on this page.
By joining the league and agreeing to the terms and conditions, you acknowledge that your email address will be shared with other members. If you want to participate in the doubles league but don’t have a partner, you can request to be added to the UCS WhatsApp group by including this request and your contact number in the email you send to Dean. Social Tennis

Social Tennis is an inclusive session created for UCS Active members and is available to all abilities. The match play doubles sessions and take place on our outdoor synthetic Grass Courts. This is also a great opportunity to meet new players and practice your game in a friendly environment.
Sessions will start on Saturday the 26th of April 2025 and will available on Saturday and Sundays. Please note: terms & conditions apply for our social play, click here to view these now.

The adult group coaching sessions are limited to 8 participants and are priced at £11 per session. Bookings must be made in advance and payments can be arranged by contacting reception.
The sessions are available:
- Mondays, 6 - 7pm (Beginners)
- Mondays, 7 -8pm (Intermediate)
- Tuesdays, 9.30 - 10.30am (Intermediate/Advanced)
- Thursdays, 9.30 - 10.30am (Intermediate)
- Sundays from 12pm - 1pm (Beginners)
What Level Am I?
Beginner: You struggle to serve and rally, and you may not understand the scoring rules. You're new to the game and need guidance on techniques and tactics.
Intermediate: You can serve, rally and score at a basic level, and may be able to hit with top-spin, but struggle to change pace and spin, and your second serve is a weaker version of your first serve. You have a basic understanding of tactics.

CARDIO TENNIS - Cardio Tennis is designed to improve both fitness and tennis skills. Participants MUST be able to hit a backhand and forehand, as well as hit a 6 shot rally. This class is very popular, so please if you can't make it let us know ASAP.

Our very popular term time tennis courses are a fun and inspiring way for kids to develop their individual tennis skills whilst benefitting from the social and group dynamics. Combining skills training, team games and mini tournament, these action-packed tennis courses are expertly delivered by our specialist children’s coaches.

Our Tennis coaches are LTA accredited and follow the LTA Mini Tennis pathway to make tennis fun, structured, and age-appropriate. Children move through the stages based on age, ability, and confidence, with guidance from our coaches.
Blue Stage (Ages 3–5)
- Focus: Fun movement, basic ball skills, gentle intro to tennis
- What they’ll learn:
- Running, jumping, catching, and simple racket skills
- Learning to hit the ball and start rallies
- Confidence and coordination development
Red Stage (Ages 5–8)
- Focus: Learning to rally, serve, and score on small courts
- What they’ll learn:
- Serve into the service box
- Rally back and forth up to 4 shots
- Understand basic scoring
- Agility, balance, and footwork for court movement
Orange Stage (Ages 8–9)
- Focus: Bigger court, faster balls, more tactics
- What they’ll learn:
- Build on red stage skills
- Serve, rally, and score on a larger court
- Try new techniques and tactical play
- Adapt to a slightly faster game
Green Stage (Ages from 9 to 14) → Transition to Yellow Ball
- Focus: Preparing for full tennis
- What they’ll learn:
- Rally from the baseline using forehands and backhands
- Improve serves, volleys, and point play
- Develop tactical awareness and court coverage
- Build confidence for full yellow ball tennis
HOW WE TRACK PROGRESS
- Mid-Term Reviews: Coaches provide bullet-point feedback after in-house match play.
- End-of-Term Reviews: Celebrate progress, set next goals, and help parents understand if their child is ready for the next stage.
- In-House Tournaments: Friendly match play mid- and end-of-term - a fun way to practise skills and get the whole family involved.

Dean is an LTA Level 3 accredited tennis coach with a passion for the sport with a competitive pro sporting background.
Dean is a Dynamic Tennis Coach with 10+ years of experience in developing training
programs for all age’s beginner, intermediate, and advanced players.
With his experience as a Level 3 personal trainer and sport conditioning means he is also adept at incorporating exercises/ performance drills that target specific movements and boost overall athleticism.

Justin is an LTA level 4 Senior Club Coach and PTR Professional with over 25 years teaching experience.
Specialising as a technician, Justin teaches basic laws and principles as well as requisite tactical, mental and physical application. Justin educates his students to a high standard giving them a solid game for life. Some of Justin's pupils are now themselves tennis coaches.
Whether you play for fun, fitness or compete, at any age, game improvement is guaranteed.

Jo has over 10 years experience coaching tennis across primary and secondary schools, as well as various tennis clubs in England.
She has also gained experience coaching tennis abroad across the Auckland region of New Zealand. She enjoys developing tennis players of all ages and abilities, including previously working with visually impaired children. As a junior, she played tennis to a county standard for Hertfordshire and more recently represented her university as team captain. Alongside work as a tennis coach, Jo is also a qualified physiotherapist working locally and interested in injury rehabilitation as well as strength and conditioning.

Tony Harriott
Tony is LTA accredited coach loves sport i.e. Athletics, football, but over the years has developed an insatiable appetite for Tennis.
I have experience in teaching different age groups for children’s Tennis to adult group session, intermediate tennis.
Favourite player is Rafael Nadal, great admirer of roger Federer, but Andy Murray still remains the bench mark for us here in the UK, hoping to fine the next superstar.

Gwenael Fort
Gwen is an LTA-accredited tennis coach. With extensive experience coaching children’s tennis, Gwen specializes in creating engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans that focus on building foundational skills, fostering sportsmanship, and nurturing a lifelong love for the game. For adult group sessions, Gwen designs dynamic and challenging drills tailored to intermediate players, emphasizing technique refinement, tactical awareness, and match play strategies to help participants progress confidently to the next level.
Gwen is adept at adapting his coaching style to suit diverse environments, from community clubs to competitive leagues. Gwen’s coaching philosophy centers on positive reinforcement, individualized feedback, and cultivating a growth mindset in every player he works with.

Adam Gabbay
Adam is a Level 1 LTA Accredited Tennis Coach with a strong passion for racket sports and developing players of all ages. A familiar and longstanding face around the club, Adam regularly helps coach the junior tennis sessions on weekends, supporting young players as they build their skills, confidence, and love for the game.
Known for a friendly and encouraging approach, Adam enjoys being part of the club community and helping create a positive environment on and off the court.
